The Xanxai challenge

The Rotarians of the Jomtien-Pattaya Club were challenged by the past district governor (PDG), Xanxai Visitkul during a visit to the club last week. PDG Xanxai, a much decorated Rotarian, made the subjects of his address Peace and Love. He said that Rotarians should demonstrate their love of mankind by inspiring them to raise money for charity projects, sometimes for people they will never meet and in countries they may never visit.

He also said that each Rotarian should say to themselves, “There will be peace on earth, and it begins with me.” If each of the 1.2 million Rotarians world-wide were to implement this way of thinking, PDG Xanxai said, “We can change our world of chaos into a world of peace and love.”

These words are ones that if followed by everyone, and not just Rotarians, the world would certainly be a better place today. Unfortunately, it does require the visionaries like PDG Xanxai Visitkul to make the message public.

Louis Fassbind still looks after his Medical Home

Alois (Louis) X. Fassbind, the man who became known as “Mr. Pattaya” through his promotion of this city world-wide, was mourned in many places when he died on the 3rd of August 1998, not the least being the Banglamung Home for the Aged. This institution was strongly supported by him through his Fassbind Medical Home, a facility to look after the health of the older members of the local community. For someone who was a flamboyant, “larger than life” person, his understanding of the needs of the less fortunate elderly was for many a revelation.

Although Louis Fassbind was a member of service clubs and put much energy into their charity projects, the medical facility, within the Banglamung Home for the Aged, was his own project. One that many people did not know that he financed himself. A project that was so dear to his heart that he even made provision for it in his will.

Fortunately, Louis Fassbind himself had many good friends, such as his fellow hotelier Bruno Forrer and other local stalwarts in the community. Bruno and Fassbind’s friends have not let the Fassbind Medical Home founder, so to commemorate the third anniversary of Louis’ passing away, a donation to cover new equipment will be made from the accumulated funds in the Fassbind Foundation coffers, to ensure that the facility remains up to date for the unfortunate sick and elderly patients.

Louis Fassbind, “Mr. Pattaya” may have gone, but his charity work still continues through the actions of his friends.

Local lawyer and insurance broker take wedding vows

Boonlua Chatree

Young people often dream of finding the right person for marriage, with hopes of building a family together in a life-long relationship filled with happiness. During one year of courtship, two people with professions providing legal services and family protection plans realized their hearts were entwined and having mutual feelings for each other decided to take sacred vows of trust for a lasting relationship together.

The groom may seem a little nervous, but the bride seems to be enjoying the mayor’s speech.

Sataporn Sriyoha, a successful lawyer at the age of 40, spent many years of hard labor studying law, and after entering the legal profession and toiling day in and day out, he realized there was an element missing in his life. He discovered the missing element that would make his life complete when he met Miss Ananthaporn Wararatchamrern, a 24-year-old professional in the insurance business with the Thai Thanakij Company.

Sataporn Sriyoha and Ananthaporn Wararatchamrern perform the time honored tradition of cutting their wedding cake together.

Pattaya’s mayor, Pairat Suttithamronsawat presided at the wedding reception, wishing the newlyweds all the best at the Sivara Room at the Pattaya Town in Town Hotel. The proud parents of the lovely bride, Warawit Wararatchanrern and his wife Mrs. Niramol, were the hosts at the reception, along with the handsome groom’s mother, Mrs. Lanoi Sriyoha.

The large wedding reception was comparable to the obvious love shared by the new husband and wife with their match made in heaven.

New Entertainment venue in the heart of Central Pattaya

The Green House, near the corner of Pattaya 2nd Road and Central Pattaya Road has lain in waste for over 10 years. A recent surge of activity on the previously run down premises has turned what was an eyesore into up-market style bars and a pub that has live entertainment nightly.

Chanyut Hengtrakul (right) gave the opening speech for Center Point Pub.

The Center Point Pub opened its arms to welcome customers, providing live entertainment, food and drinks at reasonable prices. The venue held its grand opening with guest of honor Chanyut Hengtrakul making the opening speech, after which the four bands scheduled for the evening beat out tunes to entertain the customers and guests.

The management of Center Point is aiming for a varied market by providing an international theme and international style entertainment. The venue is big enough for large crowds and a bar that runs almost the length of the building and one of the better stage designs and layouts that has been seen for quite a while.
