Sgt. Suthon Meechaidee of the highway police lost control of his squad car last week, mowing down a motorcycle and ending up on his roof after crashing through a roadside furniture store.

The riders on the motorbike, Thonchai Sribunruang, age 37, and Miss Sai Buncharern, age 32, were rushed to hospital and are currently in critical condition. Sgt. Suthon was not injured.

Witnesses told police the car was being driven at a high rate of speed and could not avoid a motorcycle turning onto Sukhumvit Road. After ramming the motorcycle, the squad car spun out of control, tumbled into a makeshift store selling furniture, and came to rest with its wheels pointing skywards.

The accident occurred on one of the dangerous segments of Sukhumvit Road near the Thong Krad Temple in Moo 4, Banglamung Sub-district.
