First Design Technology Jamboree takes place at GIS

Last week Design Technology teachers from Dulwich College, Patana School, Brunei International School, United World College Singapore and the British International School, Jakata all converged at Garden International School in Rayong for the first ever Design Technology International Baccalaureate Jamboree. This actually represented over a third of all schools worldwide that offer this subject at this level.

The Jamboree was designed to enable teachers of this course to meet and discuss the issues surrounding the 2-year IB diploma; the forthcoming syllabus changes, investigation ideas, the Group 4 project, problems of internal assessment and many other issues that arose over the 2 days.

All those who attended hailed the jamboree as a great success and Jakata have already offered their facilities for the next one. Thanks to GIS for hosting the event. More information about the IB Diploma offered at GIS can be obtained by contacting Mr. Ken Sly (038-880360).

ISE Forensics Team competes at Bangkok Pattana School

Forensic medicine has to do with studying corpses, but the International School Eastern Seaboard Forensics Team was anything but dead during the recent two-day speech tournament! International School Bangkok, Ruam Rudee International School, Bangkok Pattana School, APIS, and ICS were among the competing schools.

(Left to Right) Sarah Gundle, Daniel Schultes, Alex Arenzana, Marianna Arenzana, Julia Elliott, and Dani Wojcickij

ISE students participated by acting out scenes from plays, interpreting selections of literature by reading them with meaning and expression, and delivering original speeches. These events are known as duet acting, duet oral interpretation, and original oratory, respectively. Preparing for and participating in a tournament builds student confidence and experience. Watching others is entertaining and educational!

The ISE Team

ISE team members are Alisa Sirisant, Ratima Grover, Marianna Arenzana, Alex Arenzana, Daniel Schultes, Dani Wojcickij, Julia Elliott, Kate Jiraboondilok, Georgina Mang, and Sarah Gundle. Many of these students made it to the finals. Special recognition to Marianna & Alex Arenzana who earned second place in the duet acting category. Daniel Schultes also placed second in original oratory. Julia Elliott and Dani Wojcickij worked hard in two categories to make it to the finals in both events. Ninth grader Sarah Gundle also made it to the finals with her original speech. Congratulations to all of the team members for doing a terrific job!
