New members lunch at ATCC

The Australian-Thai Chamber of Commerce held a complimentary luncheon for recently joined members at the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel. These luncheons are held every six months so that new members have an opportunity to meet with each other along with the ATCC committee and to brief guests on the nature of their activities in Thailand. The members are encouraged to learn more of the activities and to find out about how the Chamber can assist them in their business operations.

New members who were unable to send a representative to attend this lunch will have the opportunity to attend the next new members’ luncheon scheduled for September 2000.

New members pictured from left are: Opas Dujpen (Opas and Associate), Rod Sinner (Transit Maintenance), Trongjai Darbavasu (Siam City Factoring), Des Janes (Ericsson), Somporn Sasiroj (Jong Stit), John Allan (Richmond Asset Management), Brian Butterfield (NRMA Insurance International), Keith Wecker (New International School of Thailand) Paul Beattie (Trafalgar International), Grant Cameron (Trafalgar International), Pratheep “Peter” Malhotra (Pattaya Mail), Christopher Oates (Agro Food Resources) and Bruno Huber (New Imperial Queens Park Hotel).

Exporters to get global exposure from thailand.com trade center

From early June, exporters of all sizes in Thailand will be able to promote their products at the cyber trade center, a new feature in the export section of web portal thailand.com

“We want to ensure exporters in Thailand take a big bite out of the global trade pie,” said Sermsin Sampala, President & CEO of thailand.com

Thailand.com will officially launch in June and offer five main channels: Export, Travel, Shopping, News and Business and Finance.

The export channel will feature a homepage facility with an email address at [email protected], a 24-hour virtual trade fair, updates on import and export regulations and information on delivery and logistics, global trade shows and potential export markets.

A homepage can include such information as the company’s profile, the management team, offices, products and services, financial data, client references, technology, manufacturing processes and press releases. Each electronic page will cost 3,000 baht bi-annually.

“What makes us stand out as a strong alternative for exporters besides the memorable URL is our comprehensive export-focused information and services like search facilities, and company and product lists.”

Exporters using thailand.com will have a prospective market of about 300 million people - the number now using the Internet around the world. In the next five years, this figure is likely to rise to over 700 million.

Mr. Sermsin said this growth would mean market expansion for exporters, as Internet users are high-potential B2B customers.

“By investing in thailand.com, exporters will be able to penetrate target groups, 24 hours a day,” he added. “That could translate into major sales increases.”

Thai portal will spend 100 million baht putting the name thailand.com at the top of the search rankings in all leading search engines. A sizeable amount of the money will also go on an international publicity campaign on TV stations such as CNN and key publications like The Wall Street Journal and Forbes magazine.

To date, about 100 leading export-focused firms have registered with thailand.com
