Jeremy Eckford tribute

Sir,

I just happened to be at work today and being a regular visitor to Pattaya I took my usual peek at the Pattaya Mail on the internet only to find a beautiful tribute to Jeremy Eckford. I felt I had to write to compliment Peter Cummins its author. Anyone who had the privilege to know Jeremy could only but agree that this was indeed a true portrayal of him. I miss his wry sense of humour and Pattaya lost one of its characters with the untimely death of Jeremy. As I sit here in Belfast I can see him in my mind’s eye propping up the bar in the Shamrock, deep in conversation with Alan (Bugle) Terry Mc and Don Antonio. He was a good friend to me and stopped me making some silly mistakes in Pattaya. Thank you Peter and the Pattaya Mail for such a fitting tribute. May I take the opportunity to say hello to my friends in the Shamrock Bar and also to Big Tony, Derek, Bob and Roundy. Hope to see you soon.

Hit on the coconut by a coconut

Editor;

Hi, I ... hope you can pass this on to whoever may be interested.

I am a Farang tourist from New Zealand, and was walking along the beach footpath outside Pattaya Park when my Thai friend started shouting something in Thai, and pointed up in the air. I looked up, not understanding that he was trying to warn me, and was hit full in the face by a Than fruit which fell from a tree growing in the grounds of Pattaya Park.

This broke my nose in two places and I had to have an operation and spend three days in hospital. The cost was nearly 30,000 baht.

I saw the Executive Assistant Manager of Pattaya Park, Ms Payow Chaiysing, to ask that they pay my hospital costs, as the tree is growing in their grounds, or at least for the resort to put up some warning signs.

The result was zero, they are not interested in responding in any way.

Maybe you can publicize the dangers of these trees.

In many overseas countries where the same problem exists with coconut trees, resorts display warning signs and have their staff pick the fruit before it falls.

Regards,
Brian Wallis
