Garden International goes to Singapore

Lim Dong Hyun wins the gold medal in the boys shot putt.

Garden International School, Rayong, competed in their first FOBISSEA games last week.
FOBISSEA (the federation of British type international schools in the South East Asian region) aims to promote good practice of British style education in the region and to create opportunities for students from member schools to come together and share programmes of sporting and cultural activities.
The G.I.S. team joined the 550 other competitors from 12 other schools from the S.E.A. region for two days of swimming and athletics. The games were hosted by Tanglin Trust School, Singapore, and took place in the first class facilities offered by Singapore Polytechnic and the Anglo-Chinese College.
All the schools put in excellent performances providing a high level of competition and great excitement for spectators. Our own athletes, although from a smaller school than some of the others, put in some outstanding personal efforts and achieved many personal bests. Special mention should be made to our Gold Medal winners; Lim Dong Hyun (boys shot putt), Fiona Allen (girls ball throw), and to Lauren Wilkinson for silver medal in the girls shot putt. Other notable performances came from Eoin De Puis, Peter Nugent, Gareth Sutcliffe, Mart Jan Laauw and Nicholas Ranner, the latter coming in fourth in two swimming events and two athletics events which was really an excellent all round performance.
Thank you to all the staff and parents from the school and the hosts Tanglin Trust School, Singapore. Our first year in FOBISSEA is proving to be great fun and very successful with our students and staff building valuable links with schools around the S.E.A. region.
Garden International School would like to thank its sponsors who made this venture possible: S.P.R.C.; The Rayong Refinery Company; B.H.P.; Safe with SAVAL; Pioneer Concrete and Hogan’s Restaurant Ban Chang.
Well done to all the schools who participated in this memorable event, we shall see you in K.L. in 1998!
