Sensational IGCSE grades confirm St. Andrews International as premier school in Rayong

St Andrews IGCSE class of 2014.

Mr. McGee, Head of the Secondary School
Students, parents and teachers at St. Andrews International School Green Valley are once again celebrating fantastic IGCSE results. In total our students achieved grades of A* - C 87.1% of the time, 41.6% of these being grades of A* and A. These results far exceed the UK national average of 69% for A* - C and the average scores of other international schools in the Rayong area.
Mr. Harrison, the Principal at St. Andrews said, “We are very proud of all our students’ exam results. Like previous years a large group of talented and hardworking students achieved exceptional results that reflect the outstanding teaching and learning that takes place at St. Andrews.”

Farrukh Khaitov, Ruksakul Sungpapan, Saisitorn Suksaisakulsakdi and Ty Kerr all achieved nine or more IGCSE grades of A* and A.

These students include: Edward Varnes with eight A*’s and two A grades; Saisitorn Suksaisakulsakdi, eight A*’s and one A grade; Ty Kerr, six A*’s and three A grades; Ruksakul Sungpapan, six A*’s and four A grades; and Farrukh Khaitov, with five A*’s and four A grades.
St Andrews sensational grades were, however, not limited to a small group of students. Our overall grades in different subjects were excellent. In eight different subjects areas students achieved grades of A* - C 100% of the time: English Literature, French, Mandarin, Art, History, Music, Drama and Dutch. These perfect results were backed up in English, Maths and Science. Students in First Language English and English Literature achieved grades of A* - C 90% of the time with 55% of grades being A* - A. Maths were equally successful achieving 92% A* - C with 52% A* - A and students in Science were also were successful with 85% A* - C including 42% A* - A.
While other local schools are satisfied with having results which are in line with international standards, St Andrews is not. Head of Secondary Mr. Kevin McGee stated, “Our aim is to far exceed international standards every year and we have once again done this. Our results are 18% above UK averages, once again showing the quality of the programme we offer and just how hard our students work.”
Many students in year 9 also sat the English as a Second Language exam two years early and 94% of these students achieved a grade C or above, with 73% achieving A*-B. Year 9 and 10 students who sat French exams one of two years early achieved grades of A* 100% of the time. These are tremendous results which clearly show St Andrews wishes to push its students to excel, even from an early age.

Once again St Andrews achieves outstanding IB Diploma results

St Andrews graduating IB class of 2014.

Mr. McGee, Head of the Secondary School
Rightly or wrongly, schools are often judged by their exam results which are one indicator as to the quality of a school. St Andrews is a non-selective International School; however, we continually achieve outstanding IB Diploma results.
When comparing IB results to international standards, there are usually three main criteria. The first is your average Diploma Score. This year the international average is 29.1 whereas St Andrews’ student average was 31.21, more than 2 points above. The second criterion is the percentage of students who pass the IB diploma. The international average for this is 79% whereas St Andrews’ students achieved a 93% pass rate and since they started graduating students 5 years ago the overall average is 94%. The third area of comparison is the average score achieved by students in each subject. St Andrews’ students achieved an average score of 5.1 compared to 4.9 internationally. St Andrews therefore prides itself on being consistently above international standards each and every year.

Minhyuk Lee achieved the very impressive IB Diploma score of 41 points.

Secondary Head Mr. Kevin McGee enthused that, “We are once again thrilled with our students IB Diploma results. We are not only proud of their final results but of the improvement that each and every student made over the two years of studying the IB Diploma. The dedication of our students and staff is second to none. The fact that we achieve results like this year in and year out is a testament to the quality education that students receive in all year groups at St Andrews.”
While all of the St Andrews students achieved great results, of particular note was the overall achievement of Minhyuk Lee who scored 41 points. This was a great effort for a student who started his schooling at St Andrews 5 years ago with very little English.
St Andrews students graduating IB students are now moving to universities in Australia, Canada, America, the UK, Korea, Holland and Thailand to complete their tertiary education. They have big dreams and bright futures so we wish them luck and will always remember them fondly as a part of the St. Andrews family.

Pattaya offers nutritional education for families with cerebral palsy

Aornanaong Thaweesuk, food and nutrition specialist at Regional of Health Promotion Center 3, Chonburi, lectures on the value of good nutrition for children with cerebral palsy.

Local health officials educated parents of children with cerebral palsy on optimal nutritional requirements at a Pattaya workshop.
Pattaya Public Health Department official Sureerat Wongpholkamon invited nutritionist Aornanaong Thaweesuk and Punnapa Thongphan of the Regional of Health Promotion Center 3 to speak to the ten families at city hall Aug. 25.
They stressed that children with cerebral palsy - a group of disorders that can involve brain and nervous system functions, such as movement, learning, hearing, seeing, and thinking - require a balance of food and nutritional groups.
Among them, they said, are carbohydrates, vitamin, minerals, and fat to help the brain’s development. Particularly important are vitamins B1, B2, B6, and B12 to help the nervous system, cell construction, bone marrow, blood cells and skin. Also needed is vitamin C to help build strong bones and fight infection.

Punnapa Thongphan, director of the Pattaya Public Health, Health Promotion Division, promotes balanced nutrition for all children, especially those with special needs.

Parents and children from Pattaya listen intently to lecturers at the conference for better child care.
