Skål conference gives major boost to Thailand tourism

(L to R) Dale Lawrence; Bernard Whewell (Australia); Brinley Waddell, International Councilor for Thailand; Karine Coulanges (France); Siripakorn Cheawsamoot (TAT); Keith Murcott, President - International Skål Councilors (South Africa); Paul Follows (UK); Susanna Saari (Finland) and Eric Hallin - GM at the Rembrandt Hotel and former Skål Bangkok President.

Thailand’s tourism sector has received a major boost from Skål International - the world’s oldest and largest tourism industry networking organization.
Senior Skål members from more than 30 countries have attended a series of meetings and workshops at the Rembrandt Hotel in Bangkok as part of the mid-year gathering of International Skål Councilors. Members of Skål International’s global Executive Committee, headed by President Karine Coulanges, were also in Bangkok. Skål is this year celebrating its 80 anniversary.
At a celebration dinner on Saturday 31 May at the Rembrandt Hotel’s Da Vinci restaurant, guest of honor Siripakorn Cheawsamoot - Director of the Americas Market Division at the Tourism Authority of Thailand - said that the decision by Skål to stage these meetings in Bangkok, despite recent political events, was an important signal to business and leisure travelers that Thailand remains open for business.
The business and social events were organized by Skål International Bangkok. Club President Dale Lawrence, who also serves as Skål’s national president said, “The Skål events in Bangkok have given Thailand’s tourism sector a huge boost. Importantly, our international guests are now returning to influential source markets around the world with the positive message that Thailand is a safe and secure destination for business and leisure travelers.”
Skål International has nearly 17,000 members in 400 clubs across 87 nations and territories. Skål International Bangkok was formed in 1956 and is one of six active clubs in Thailand.

Hilton Pattaya takes part in Hilton Worldwide’s largest global career event

Hilton Pattaya has taken part in Careers@Hilton Live: Youth in Hospitality Month, Hilton Worldwide’s largest ever global career event showcasing to young people the many opportunities available in the hospitality industry. Throughout the month of May, Hilton Worldwide hotels and corporate offices around the globe are hosting hundreds of events to inform those looking for employment, including young people, about the vast array of exciting opportunities available to all in the hospitality industry. This event is part of Bright Blue Futures, a global program that encourages team members to donate their time and expertise to help young people achieve stability and bring hope to their communities, preparing them for a brighter future.
Careers@Hilton Live: Youth in Hospitality events are a unique opportunity for Hilton Worldwide team members to inspire those looking for employment about careers in the hospitality industry, and to support them by providing guidance on the skills that are vital to succeed in the workplace and beyond. Participants have been joining Hilton Worldwide team members for events ranging from résumé clinics, to career speed-networking, as well as presentations from team members on their career paths.
On May 28, 2014, Hilton Pattaya hosted an event which saw 50 young students from Aksorn Pattaya Technological College join the hotel’s open house activities. The students were assigned to different groups to visit various departments, including Human Resources, Front Desk, Kitchen, Food and Beverage, Housekeeping, Spa, Health Club, Engineering and Sales. Students enjoyed a lunch buffet while learning about table manners and etiquette. They also enjoyed a live band performance by a group of team members and participated in quiz games on stage to receive prizes.
General Manager Rudolf Troestler said, “Young people continue to face challenging employment prospects, so it is more important than ever to make sure they receive information and advice about the options available and the skills and attributes they will need once they embark on their chosen careers.
“We are passionate about raising awareness of the opportunities the hospitality industry offers and we are delighted to be doing this through one of our biggest ever careers events across the globe.”
Careers@Hilton Live: Youth in Hospitality Month was part of Hilton Worldwide’s Open Doors commitment, which aims to positively impact at least one million young people by 2019 and better prepare them to reach their full potential.
Anyone unable to attend an event during the month of May can still take part in Hilton Worldwide’s “Career Concierge,” in which everyone interested in learning more about careers in hospitality can submit their questions online via Hilton Worldwide’s twitter feed (@HiltonWorldwide) using hashtag #CareersatHiltonLive, or through the form on www.hiltonworldwide .com/youth.
