More water fits
Editor;
I want to thank the Pattaya City Water dept. for saving me money. My water
bill this month was the lowest it has been for months. Of course, you can
expect this, when you don’t get water for two or three days out of the week.
The meters don’t run when there is no water flowing through them.
At least there didn’t seem to be a problem for the week of Songkran.

Thai families leave trash behind
Editor;
Re: Disagrees - it isn’t Thais (PM Mailbag Friday, 09 May 2014) - Got to
agree with Jerry Singha. I have many times on Jomtien Beach seen large
family groups who have been having an evening picnic just stand up and walk
away from all of their rubbish. As to how clean Thai villages are, I agree
they are indeed, which just leads me to believe that the Thais who come to
Jomtien for a break think along the lines of ‘oh well it’s not my
neighbourhood’.

Alcohol vs smoking
Dear Sirs,
I saw a report by the WHO which stated that over three million people died
last year as a result of drinking alcohol. I wonder if a survey was done to
see the number of innocent people died or were disabled for life from the
result of other people drinking alcohol and the number of people whose lives
were ruined. I.e., as a result of drunk drivers and families where a person
had a serious drink problem and the numbers were compared to the numbers of
innocent people who died or whose lives were ruined by the effect of
secondary smoke, which number would be the greater? I would hazard a guess
that the number who died and certainly the number who were maimed for life
or the number whose lives were ruined by family violence, etc., by drinking
alcohol would by far exceed the number effected by smokers.

Suggestion from a “f’lang”

Dear Pattaya City Council,
I hope you don’t mind a suggestion from a f’lang. This is the sign at
intersection at the northern end of Thappraya Rd, facing the Bali Hai
overpass. It is suggested that the wording on the sign be changed to:
“To Second Road - turn left
To Third Road - turn right”

Not what it could have been
Editor;
Re: Pattaya Beach still has problems (PM Mailbag Friday, 25 April 2014) - It
is an improvement but it’s not what it could have been. My issue is the
longevity of the lock block paving. Preparation is the key here and on all
the occasions I have seen the pavers at work they did not have the correct
equipment to compress the base sufficiently. In a country that sees as much
seasonal heavy rain as Thailand does it won’t be long before the blocks
start shifting and lifting.
Right idea, wrong execution. They are now onto the beachfront at my condo at
Wongamat - different type of repair, hopefully better result.
