Skål Learns about Cloud based technology for the tourism sector

Paul Strachan
The international tourism association Skål held their local chapter meeting on Thursday July the 18th at Casa Pascal restaurant on Second Road in Pattaya.
Skål Pattaya & East Thailand was re-launched earlier this year under the leadership of club president Tony Malhotra. The club aims to bring tourism professionals together in an informal manner for networking and informative lectures utilizing some great venues in and around Pattaya.

Chai Holway talks about Cloud based integrated property management systems.

Approximately 40 guests attended the July event and were treated to a welcome drink by Pascal & Kim Schnyder and their team. The proceedings started with the usual welcome and Skål toast by President Tony.
Entrance for these events is open to anybody, but is focused on tourism related business such as hospitality, travel agents, etc. The cost for this night was only 600 baht which included the welcome drink. Casa Pascal then served up a fabulous four course meal prior to the introduction of the guest speaker.
Chai Holway is the managing director of Direct Commerce Technology Company Ltd. He is a Thai-American computer scientist, an aerospace engineer who has worked with NASA and is also a keen musician and rollerblader.
Chai’s presentation revolved around Cloud based integrated property management systems, and how the systems he helps to develop can be of a great aid to those working in hospitality, as this method allows them to keep a ‘real time’ overview of the allocation of their hotel rooms and where the clients’ leads have been generated from. Chai also stressed Cloud based booking systems, meaning that hotels don’t have to have expensive servers to contain their data, and that upgrades are automatic so the technology keeps pace with the demand of the customers.

(L-R) Janya Rattanaliam, Deputy Head of the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya International Marketing Department, Namfon Chunsay, Assistant Event Manager and Sittidej Rochanavibhata, GM of Cape Dara Resort.

This integrated system allows them to have an entire overview of their database, from internet booking agents, property management system, point of sales, distribution channel, and connectivity with the OTA (such as Agoda). This means that the data can be retrieved anywhere in the world via an android phone, an i-pad or a laptop.
After his presentation there was a quick Q&A session followed by veteran Skålleague Greig Ritchie giving Chai a vote of thanks for his talk and to Kim & Pascal for hosting the event.
The next regular meeting for Skål Pattaya & East Thailand will be held on Thursday the 15th of August at the Thai Garden Resort’s Moon Rover Pub, beginning at 6:30pm.
If your business is related to tourism, Skål Pattaya is an ideal way to meet your colleagues and to network and learn more about others working in the tourism sector.
