Laughter and happiness as presents

“Bright eyes and thankful
smiles dominate when people from Thai Garden Resort visit Baan Tungklom
School.”
Danilo Becker,
Thai Garden Resort Hotel Manager
Bright eyes and thankful smiles were dominating the ambience when people
from the Thai Garden Resort visited the Baan Tungklom School in January.
As every year, the hotel had collected goods and money for children in need
within the charity project “Toy for Joy”. During Christmastime, hotel guests
placed all kinds of books, toys and clothes under the Christmas tree in the
hotel lobby.
The guests’ generosity was also apparent in the adjacent donation box which
was filled with “big and small notes”. This collected amount was doubled by
the Thai Garden Resort management to about 40,000 THB. Then the money was
invested in school uniforms, shoes and writing materials - all important
things to support the education of poor children. Of course the Thai Garden
Resort team also bought cuddly toys and sweets.
Hotel Manager Danilo Becker, Personal Manager Teerachon, Sales Manager
Panom, and other department heads did not miss the chance of attending the
handing over of all the donations. So at the end everyone has to offer
laughter and happiness!

St Andrews year two students taken on village trip

“We have been busy exploring the local environment,
comparing village life to city life,”
Mr. Gary, St Andrews Year Two Teacher
In Year Two, we have been busy exploring the local environment, comparing
village life to city life and becoming more aware of the lives of others.
Recently, we visited Ban Chark Mark, a traditional Thai village.
First, we visited the Chinese Temple, which was very colourful and eye-catching.
It was covered with pictures of animals. Next, we looked at the local shop and
it sold a really wide variety of products. There were so many things that you
would not be able to get at the supermarket. It was fascinating! It was a very
hot day so we took the opportunity to buy ice cream and drinks. They were
surprisingly cheap, compared with city prices.

“There were so many things that you would not be
able to get at the supermarket. It was fascinating!”
After that, we visited the laundry house which was also extremely interesting.
We found out that the laundry house has a high season, when more people visit
the local area. During high season, more clothes need to be washed, dried and
ironed. The lady in the laundry house sometimes has to launder over a hundred
different items of clothing each day.
Later, we visited the village temple and were lucky enough to be shown around by
one of the monks. The temple was really beautiful and had some elaborate
decorations on it. It was interesting to hear that the Singha (golden lions)
were positioned in front of the temple to protect it from evil spirits.
Finally, we visited the local school in Ban Chark Mark. It was great to meet new
friends and to learn alongside the Thai students from the school. We were made
to feel very welcome. We noticed many differences between our school and the
village school.
We were fortunate enough to see our new friends again one week later. This time,
it was our turn to be the hosts. We had a great afternoon taking part in a
variety of activities such as cake decorating and making Valentines crafts with
the children from Ban Chark Mark. We really enjoyed this experience.

“The temple was really beautiful and had some
elaborate decorations on it.”

St Andrews students go
on adventurous YMCA trip

Eva pulls back the string.
Amazing archery
Kaia Lundin, Thailand
On Thursday, January 31, Y4 students in class 4F went on an exciting trip to
the YMCA, and did archery.
First of all, the students lined up as the instructor explained the rules of
archery. They had 3 turns each. Most of the students at least hit the board. It
was very exciting for the students. Year 4 student Eva was a little too strong
and shot way past the bull’s eye. Many students struggled to pull the string
back. The person with the most points was Mrs. Foster! It was so fun that the
students were pleading for another turn so they each got 1 more turn! The group
leader, Mrs. Foster, also had a turn herself! It was very exciting for the
children.
Eva, one of the satisfied students said, “It was a bit scary, so you need to be
really strong, but you really need the right strength, but I think I was too
strong.” The Year 4 students came back from the trip wearing their YMCA T-shirts
with pride.
Does a fox really fly?
Bente Klein, Thailand
Year 4 students went to the YMCA on February 1st and they experienced
the amazing flying fox (zip line).

Sebi just came down.
First Mrs. Foster’s team went to the flying fox. They stood
on a wooden plank so the red ants wouldn’t bite them. The instructor told them
the instructions. Then Mrs. Foster chose the first person. Everyone had to climb
steep stairs. After that you could choose how fast or slow you wanted to go.
When each student went, everyone cheered. The students begged Mrs. foster to go
again. Unfortunately there was not enough time, but everyone had fun.
Year 4 student Kaia said, “The flying Fox was very fun and it felt like you
could fly.” All year 4 students went with their YMCA t-shirts on.
