Policeman shot by friendly fire trying to stop drunk Danish driver

Police shot one of their own after opening fire on a pickup truck
driven by an allegedly drunken Danish man who refused to stop at a Jomtien
Beach checkpoint.
Sgt. Ruangchai Prachaipoom, a Sriracha-based officer cooperating with
Chonburi police in area checkpoints, suffered a single shot to the leg Jan.
19 and was treated at Pattaya Memorial Hospital.
The shooting occurred when Pattaya traffic police shot at the Toyota Vigo
driven by 57-year-old Vagn Zehngraff, trying to stop the truck after it
smashed into a motorbike on Jomtien Second Road and ran the checkpoint at
the Pratamnak Road intersection.
Officers fired four shots as the truck sped up Pratamnak Soi 5, hitting two
tires, but also striking an officer in pursuit.
