U.S. Consular Outreach: Pattaya.  The Consular Section of the American Embassy in Bangkok has scheduled a visit to Pattaya on Tuesday March 1, 2011.  Consular staff will be available at the Dusit Thani Pattaya from 10:00 to 14:00.  Services provided include notarial services, passport renewal applications, extra visa pages, and staff will also try to answer any social security, VA, or other federal benefits questions.  Consular reports of birth and new passport applications cannot be processed during consular outreach trips.  For more information please email [email protected] or call the American Citizen Services Unit at 02 205 4049.

The Northstar Library in Pattaya will be holding a second-hand book festival on Saturday March 5th and Sunday March 6th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  All are welcome to buy, sell and exchange books at this fair.  There will also be many games for children.  The library is located on Sukhumvit Road between Central and North Pattaya Roads.  Call 038-716755 or 081-5754854 (Kh. The British Chamber of Commerce Thailand (BCCT) is holding an All Chambers Eastern Seaboard Networking event on Friday 25th February 2011 from 6.30 p.m. at the Dusit Thani Pattaya.  RSM Advisory (Thailand) Limited and MBMG Group are sponsoring finger food & selected beverages on a first-come, first-served basis from 6.30 – 8 p.m.  Anyone arriving before 6.30 p.m. or staying after 8 p.m. must cover their own F&B costs. Clubs and Associations

The next meeting of the Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) will be on Sunday, February 27. Everyone is warmly welcome.  The guest speaker will be Dorothy Culloty, author of “Food from Northern Laos – The Boat Landing Cookbook”, who will be introducing members and guests to the delights of Northern Lao food.  The Club meets every Sunday morning at the Tavern by the Sea Restaurant located on the north end of Beach Road (part of the Amari Orchid Resort).  The program starts as usual at 10:30 a.m. with a buffet breakfast available from 9 to 11 a.m.  Each week the PCEC usually has an interesting speaker to talk on various subjects of interest in an informal setting.  The program is followed by the ever lively and often humorous Open Forum where questions are asked and answers given about living in Pattaya as well as an update on events in and around Pattaya.  A full report appears each week in Pattaya Mail.  For more information about the Sunday meeting and the numerous other weekday activities of the PCEC, see the Club’s website at www.pattayacityexpatsclub.com and learn more about the many and varied activities of the Club.

For the past 28 years the Samaritans of Thailand have been providing confidential crisis intervention services over the telephone.  The English-speaking unit, Samaritans English Help Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support to the expatriate community.  English-speaking staff, trained in crisis intervention will provide active, non-judgmental and empathetic listening services on the phone.  All calls will be handled on an anonymous basis and are free of charge.  Please call (02) 713-6791 (24hrs a day, 7 days a week).
