TAT to take Indian roadshow to Jaipur, Bhubaneswar


New Delhi, 24 July, 2014 – Two rapidly-emerging Indian cities of Jaipur and Bhubaneswar are to be the target of a Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) roadshow on 23 and 25 July, 2014, respectively.

Due to start in the Indian capital city of New Delhi on 21 July, the roadshow will then move to the Rajasthan capital of Jaipur and Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha. The roadshow is a part of the TAT’s marketing plan to attract more first-time visitors from the rapidly-growing India market, especially the country’s Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

This is the first time that TAT will be doing roadshows in Jaipur and Bhubaneswar. Both are classified as being among the Top Ten emerging cities of India, with large working populations and a burgeoning middle-class with high levels of disposable income. Although there are no direct flights to Bangkok from either of those cities, prospective visitors from Jaipur can connect via New Delhi or Mumbai, and from Bhubaneswar via Kolkata.

There will be a B2B session in each city, where Indian travel agents will get an opportunity to interact with the travel trade from Thailand. This will be followed by a Thailand products presentation, cocktails and dinner.

The TAT Director in New Delhi, Ms. Runjuan Tongrut, will update the Indian agents on new destinations and new trends, including cultural and entertainment options, existing and upcoming theme parks, health and wellness facilities, golf, adventure travel and new hotel developments.

The Thai destinations to be promoted are Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, Khao Yai, Rayong, Ko Chang, Chanthaburi, Ko Samui, Ko Tao, Ko Pha Ngan, Krabi, Phuket, HuaHin/Cha-am, Pranburi, Kanchanaburi, Trang, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai among others.

In the past year, more than 100 Indian weddings have been held in Thailand, as well as many other celebrations; such as, birthdays, anniversaries and graduation parties. There are many options for Indian weddings including banquet space, floral services, temples and Gurudwaras in Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Ko Samui and Chiang Mai.

We are looking forward to working closely with them to make Thailand their first-choice destination for the upcoming holiday season, especially around Diwali time in October”.

India is today the biggest source market for visitors from South Asia and one of seven countries generating more than one million arrivals. In 2013, Indian visitors to Thailand totalled 1,028,414, up 4.31% over 2012.

Based on an average daily expenditure per person of USD179.15, and average length of stay of 7.14 days, Indian visitors generated tourism revenue of USD 1.315.50 billion in 2013.
