BANGKOK, 9 April 2012  – Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s UK Office Siripakorn Cheawsamoot has saidthe TAT plans to attract British tourists to Thailand during the Summer Olympics 2012, scheduled for July 27 to Aug 12.

To accommodate an influx of visiting athletes and international tourists during the Olympics, the British government is launching campaigns to urge residents to rent out their properties to visitors.

Mr Siripakorn said that in light of the UK government’s scheme, the agency is setting up a tourism campaign to lure UK tourists who plan to leave the congested city of London during that period. If things go as planned, the TAT expects around 85,000 visitors from the UK to travel to Thailand. The move could raise Thailand’s tourism revenue by 900 million baht.

The agency is in talks with a number of real estate agents in London to compile a list of landlords putting up their homes for rent during the London Games.

The TAT is also proposing a special package deal to boost the travel campaign, highlighting the local value-for-money prices while appealing to UK homeowners sent reeling by the European debt crisis.
