The Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA) is organizing the 14th Thai International Travel Fair 2014 during February 20 – 23 in a bid to boost local and regional tourism.

The fair will be held at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre from 10am – 8pm. Organizers promise to bring together bargain tour packages from leading local and international tourism industry operators, along with representatives from international tourism boards from popular destinations including Japan, China and Taiwan.

There will be around 1,000 booths offering hotel and spa packages, theme park tickets, tourism-related equipment as well as OTOP products from all over Thailand.

Cultural performances from countries in the region will be held on stage. For every 1,000 baht spent at the fair, visitors can enter a draw to win special prizes.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will also display their campaign on Bangkok tourism at the fair. The BMA has introduced a 1-day tour, during which tourists can visit all of the capital’s highlights in 1 day. Other agencies such as the Designated Area for Sustainable Tourism Administration and the Ministry of Tourism and Sport will also exhibiting their projects at the venue.

According to TTAA president Sutthipong Phernpipop, the international travel fair will also be hosted in Chiang Mai, Udon Thani and Phuket.

The agency earlier said hotel bookings from North America and Europe have plunged by 70 percent since April while those from the neighboring Asian countries have gone down by about 30 percent, due to lingering political turmoil.

Although Thailand’s tourism was hit by travel warnings from several foreign governments in the second half of 2013, local agencies said the number of foreign tourists in 2014 is expected to reach 27.5 million, an increase of 3.0 percent on-year from 2013.
