Regional Thai airline Solar Air this month will begin flights to Bangkok, Chumphon and Siam Reap, Cambodia from U-Tapao-Pattaya International Airport.

Solar Aviation Co. CEO Jirathat Ongaaree on Oct. 26 said service using its 18-seat aircraft will begin Nov. 9. The Siam Reap and Chumphon flights are being done in partnership with South Pattaya’s Maxx Royal Tour Co.

“U-Tapao has potential for tourism and commercial services thanks to its ongoing development,” Jirathat said. “It offers advantages in travelling as being only 30 kilometers from Pattaya.”

While the Solar Air executive hailed the airport runway’s ability to handle jumbo jets, the airline will use small Dornier 228 planes with 18 seats to service the Koh Tao, Siam Reap and capital areas. Flights to Chumphon and Cambodia will run four days a week.

Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome hailed the new flights, saying the routes will save tourists time and money.

Solar already offers flights from U-Tapao to Hua Hin. For more information, visit Solar Air Online at SolarAir. co.th or Maxx Travel at MaxxRoyalTour.com.
