National shopping spree to take place 19-21 Aug

BANGKOK, 8 August 2011 – Retailers, wholesalers and convenience stores nationwide will join hands to give discounts for consumers to celebrate the 91st anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Commerce on 20 August 2011. 

According to Department of Internal Trade (DIT) Director-General Vatchari Vimooktayon, the DIT and 12 supermarket chains as well as wholesalers and convenience stores will give over 10-70% discounts and special promotions such as buy-one-get-one-free for over 6,000 items of goods.

Participating businesses include Tesco Lotus, Makro, Big C, 7-Eleven, Tops, Central, Robinson, The Mall, Foodland, Tang Hua Seng, Family Mart and 108 Shop. There are over 10,000 branches of the mentioned businesses altogether.

The shopping spree is set to start from 19 to 21 August 2011. The above-mentioned businesses will have their advertising signs set up informing people that they are offering discounts and promotions for various types of goods ranging from rice, fresh food, seasonings, garments, electrical appliances and many others.

In addition, the ministry will hold a product fair on the third floor of the ministry during 8.30-17.00 hrs from 15 to 17 August 2011. Over 200 booths of fresh food and OTOP products will participate in the event offering up to 40% in discount.
