Don Mueang Airport launches emergency drills

BANGKOK, 2 September 2015 – Don Mueang International Airport has carried out emergency drills to keep its staff prepared for unexpected situations.

Airport staff of all divisions were to undergo mock critical cases such as discovery of a bag containing improvised explosives, evacuation of passengers and shop operators to a pre-determined assembly point and relocation of the bomb to the disposal area.

Wing Commander Songsak Tongtang, general manager of Don Mueang said the drills were divided into partial scale emergency and full-scale types. The partial scale exercise is conducted every six months, while the full-scale one is conducted every two years in line with the requirements of the Department of Civil Aviation and the suggestions of the International Civil Aviation Organization. Both are meant to ensure confidence of airport users in its safety.

The drills were observed by several agencies, such as the Royal Thai Air Force, of the Department of Civil Aviation and the Counter Terrorist Operations Center.
