Bangkok Airways recently announced its latest expansion to the northern part of Thailand – Chiang Rai, offering non-stop flights from Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) to Chiang Rai, the northernmost large city in Thailand. Commencing on 28 March 2014, the airline will be using a 162-seat Airbus A320 aircraft to service this route.

Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, Bangkok Airways’ president said, “We see Chiang Rai as another potential, yet competitive market in Thailand. The city has emerged as a popular northern Thailand alternative tourist base to larger Chiang Mai. Chiang Rai is a strategic gateway to neighboring countries such as the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the southernmost part of China.

“As Bangkok Airways is focusing on leisure destinations, we therefore see high demand from international connecting passengers to this part of South East Asia. We look to cement our position in the increasingly competitive Thai market. We are confident that with our strong reputation of offering a boutique flying experience for our passengers, Bangkok Airways will become a leading player in this market,” Puttipong concluded.

The first outbound flight PG231 will depart Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) at 07.35hrs and arrive Chiang Rai Airport at 08.55hrs. while the second outbound flight will depart Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) at 18.05hrs and arrive Chiang Rai Airport at 19.25hrs.
