Winter arrives in Thailand as tourists flock to Doi Inthanon with temperatures dropping to 8°C

CHIANG MAI, Thailand – Thailand officially welcomes the winter season, and tourists are already flocking to popular mountainous destinations to enjoy the cooler weather.

At Doi Inthanon National Park in Chiang Mai, temperatures at the summit dropped further this morning, registering just 8 degrees Celsius. The nearby viewpoint at Kew Mae Pan recorded 11 degrees Celsius. Visitors were seen enjoying the crisp mountain air and gathering to witness the first rays of sunlight along the scenic routes. Authorities predict that temperatures may continue to fall in the coming days, with the possibility of frost appearing soon.

Other areas in northern and northeastern Thailand are also experiencing cooler conditions. In Loei province, the morning temperatures ranged from 13 to 21 degrees Celsius with light fog in elevated areas. In the city, the temperature dropped to 19.1 degrees Celsius. Phu Kradueng and Phu Ruea National Parks recorded 15 degrees Celsius, while Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary registered 13 degrees Celsius.

Tourists have been booking accommodations in nature-based attractions in large numbers, particularly over weekends, to experience the refreshing cold, watch the mist flow over the mountains, and enjoy panoramic views. At Phu Khon Noi viewpoint in Ban Bung, Na Haeo district, visitors were treated to sweeping 180-degree views of the sea of mist drifting over the surrounding hills, offering an immersive winter experience.
