Department of Internal Trade Director-General Wattanasak Sur-iam inspects vegetable prices and affordable produce sales at markets in Bangkok.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Vegetable and egg prices are easing as fresh produce supplies increase, with Thai basil prices dropping sharply from as high as 150 baht to around 20–25 baht per kilogram, the Department of Internal Trade reported on November 7. Department Director-General Wattanasak Sur-iam inspected market prices at Thonburi Market in Thawi Watthana district, Bangkok, and visited a sales point under the “Thai Helps Thai” cost-of-living relief programme at Wat Krajang in Taling Chan district.

He said supplies were sufficient to meet demand, with increased fresh vegetable production bringing down prices for several items. Wholesale prices showed radish falling from 20 to 18 baht per kilogram and yardlong beans from 36 to 30 baht. However, Chinese morning glory rose slightly from 16 to 20 baht per kilogram. Red trimmed pork was selling at around 150 baht per kilogram, while Grade 3 chicken eggs had fallen from 4.50 to 4.30 baht each, with further reductions expected as supplies increase.

At the Wat Krajang sales point, fruit from local farmers was also available at affordable prices, including longan from Chanthaburi at 55 baht per kilogram. The department is also preparing measures to manage approximately 30,000 tons of eastern-region longan production in 2026. Current farm-gate prices range from 21–22 baht per kilogram, while loose or fallen longan sells for 7–9 baht.

Plans include distributing 20,000 tons through retail chains, wholesale and fresh markets, Blue Flag outlets, convenience stores, government and private organisations, and local communities. The department also aims to purchase 2,000 tonnes in Chanthaburi at above-market prices and coordinate buyers and exporters to distribute a further 1,500 tons. (TNA)
