Two officers, one civilian hurt in series of attacks in Yala

YALA, July 14 – Two officers and one civilian were hurt in grenade, bombing attacks at police station, border police, army ranger outposts, and four ATM booths in Yala’s Bannang Sata district Friday.

M-79 grenades were fired at a border patrol police outpost, located on district land office, wounding a police officer, Pol Sen Sgt Maj Wichai Klaiwisate, while almost simultaneously, an army ranger outpost was also hit by an M-79 grenade attack. One official was hurt.

In another incident, three M-79 grenade were fired at the Bannang Sata police station from an area near the bank of Pattani River Friday night. Two grenades fell behind the police station and the other landed near the housing area of police and defense volunteers. Fortunately, no one was wounded in the incident.

Meanwhile, bombings hit four ATM booths of four banks of Bannang Sata branch – Krung Thai, Government Savings Bank, Bank for Agriculture and Agriculture Cooperatives, and Islamic Bank.  One passer-by, identified as Muhammad Suwae, riding a motorcycle, was injured in the incident.

The police found a SIM card of a mobile phone which was believed to be used to trigger the bombs at ATM booths. The police are looking for the user number and related information which may link to the attackers. Footage from the banks’ surveillance cameras will also be reviewed.
