Two bombs explode at Victory Monument, at least 28 injured


BANGKOK, 19 January 2014  Two bombs exploded near a rally site at the Victory Monument earlier this afternoon, reported the Erawan Emergency Center. 

The Erawan Emergency Center of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has reported that the first bomb went off at around 1:34 pm, injuring at least 28 rally-goers, one among whom is a journalist from Post Today newspaper. All the victims have been taken to Ratchawithi Hospital, Ramathibodi Hospital, Phra Mongkut Klao Hospital, and Chulalongkorn Hospital.

According to Thaworn Senneam, a Democrat MP turned the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) core leader, a man threw a bomb behind the rally stage at the Victory Monument before fleeing the scene. As the PDRC members gave chase, the suspect threw another bomb and opened fire at the protesters.
