BANGKOK, Thailand – Heavy flooding on Chaeng Watthana Road left dozens of cars stalled underwater on Monday night, forcing drivers to battle through waist-deep water in front of Central Chaeng Watthana. One television host, Kittima Thara-rattanakul, shared her harrowing experience online — saying she was so terrified she burst into tears while driving through the flood.
In a viral Facebook post, Kittima described the nightmare scene: engines dead, flashing hazard lights everywhere, and the water level spilling over the sidewalks. “It was so high I couldn’t turn back,” she wrote. “I had to move forward.”
As she inched through the deluge, Kittima said she searched YouTube in real time for “how to drive through floodwaters,” then followed the tips — switching off the air conditioner, using a low gear, and driving slowly to keep her car alive.
What angered her most, however, was the behavior of larger vehicles. “They sped through the flood like they owned the road,” she wrote. “Some even splashed water onto cars that were struggling to survive. One tow truck honked and cut in front of me — I shouted out my window, ‘Slow down! Not everyone’s car is as high as yours!’”
The most frightening moment came near Central Chaeng Watthana, where the floodwaters were at their peak. “There were no cars ahead of me — everyone stopped. I cried, thinking my car was going to die right there,” she said. “But I told myself to stay calm. I was determined not to let my car drown.”
After surviving the ordeal, Kittima parked and checked for damage. “A bit of water got in, but nothing serious. I’m just proud I made it through,” she wrote, adding with frustration, “Is this really the quality of life people in Bangkok and the suburbs deserve?”
Her post quickly gained attention online, resonating with city residents long tired of Bangkok’s chronic flooding and reckless drivers who show no empathy during crises.
