Former PM Thaksin Shinawatra attends court for Section 112 and Computer Crime charges amid strong public support.

BANGKOK, Thailand – At the Criminal Court on Ratchadaphisek Road, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra appeared for the hearing in a case filed against him under Section 112 of the Criminal Code (Lèse-Majesté) and the Computer Crime Act. The charges stem from a 2015 interview he gave to South Korean media.

Supporters, including Red Shirt activists, gathered outside the court to show encouragement. Notable politicians such as former Education Minister Suchart Thadathamrongvej and former Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat also arrived to offer support. Somchai described himself as a devoted fan of Thaksin and stated he is not a defense witness but trusts the legal team’s preparations. It remains uncertain if Thaksin’s daughter attended, though a steady stream of supporters was present.

Security was tight, with officers from Phahonyothin Police Station and court police deployed around the premises. Thaksin arrived at 9:13 AM in a black-and-silver Mercedes-Maybach, dressed in a yellow suit and tie, accompanied by his lawyer Winyat Chatmontri. The hearing is scheduled to last the entire day and is being held behind closed doors. (TNA)
