SA KAEO, Thailand – The Burapha Task Force intercepted two groups of Thai nationals illegally crossing back into Thailand from Cambodia in a single night, arresting a total of seven individuals in Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province.
The first group, consisting of three women, was caught near Ban Khlong Luek. They initially claimed they had been lured to work as housemaids in casino buildings in Poipet. However, they were later forced by Chinese employers to open bank accounts used as mule accounts. Fearing further exploitation, they fled and paid 100 baht each to Cambodian guides to return to Thailand, where they were detained by authorities.
The second group, comprising one man and three women, was apprehended near Ban Kut Hin. They admitted they had voluntarily crossed into Poipet to participate in mule account operations. But once their accounts were frozen and rendered useless, the gang abandoned them. They were forced to pay 2,500 baht each to find their own way back to Thailand.
Authorities continue to crack down on cross-border exploitation schemes and warn citizens against falling victim to online job scams linked to transnational criminal networks. (TNA)
