Thailand’s PM to attend ASEAN-South Korea Summit


BANGKOK, Dec 10 — Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha left Bangkok this morning to attend the 2014 ASEAN-South Korea CEO Summit tomorrow and the ASEAN-South Koirea Commemorative Summit 2014 on Friday.

According to the Government House website, Gen Prayut will also have bilateral talks with two national leaders–South Korean President Park Geun-hye, and Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei–and will meet with delegates from leading South Korean businesses including Samsung Electronics, LG, Hyundai Motor and K-Water.

The ASEAN-South Korea Summit is part of the parallel activities of the ASEAN-South Korea Commemorative Summit.

The main topic of discussion is “Innovation and Dynamism: A New Takeoff for ASEAN and Korea”, organized by the Korea Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI).

M. Yongmaan Park, KCCI Chairman, invited Gen Prayut to join the forum and speak on the topic “Global Economic Outlook and the Role of Asia.”

A hundred Thai businessmen were also invited.

Gen Prayuth will take this opportunity to explain global and regional economic trends and the role of Asia in mobilizing the world economy.

He will encourage ASEAN and the South Korea to collaborate in mutually beneficial potential businesses.

The private sector’s role should be further promoted.

Also, he will address Thailand’s economic policies and measures, such as those related to reducing trade barriers, promoting connectivity, and developing border economic zones, digital economy, and the green economy.

The ASEAN-South Korea Commemorative Summit is a special meeting between leaders of the 10 ASEAN member states and the Republic of Korea to celebrate the 25th anniversary of relations between ASEAN and South Korea.

Subjects to be raised by Thailand are development of economic cooperation, development of connectivity among people, support for the South Korea’s promotion of peace and stability, as well as propriety within this region.

The prime minister and his delegation will return to Thailand Friday night.
