BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is set to convene a high-level meeting on June 23 to assess and strengthen Thailand’s response to online crime, including cyber fraud and illegal gambling linked to cross-border networks. The government is intensifying its efforts to safeguard the public and mitigate the impact of transnational operations that pose a threat to national security.
The meeting follows a drop in online scams and related offenses after Thailand adjusted operating hours at border checkpoints with Cambodia on June 7. Since then, authorities have observed a decrease in the number of Thai citizens falling victim to digital fraud, highlighting improved coordination between law enforcement agencies and regional partners.
While western provinces have seen a decline in criminal activity, the eastern border has experienced a shift in network behavior, prompting close monitoring and targeted enforcement. Authorities continue to urge Thai citizens to avoid participating in these syndicates, which often prey on vulnerable individuals and disrupt public safety.
The upcoming meeting will cover a wide range of security issues, including human trafficking, narcotics, money laundering, and cybercrime. The government is working to ensure Thailand remains prepared, while advancing cross-border coordination and legal enforcement to protect its people from emerging criminal threats. (NNT)
