PERU, 11 December 2014 – Thailand expressed her intention to the voluntary emission reduction of greenhouse gases in the energy and logistic sectors by 7-20% within 2020 in order to mitigate the effect of climate change and global warming.

The intention was made at the UN Climate Change Conference 2014 being held in Lima, Peru , during 1-12 December 2014.

Thailand took part in two sub-conferences: the twentieth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) and the Tenth session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 10).

As the head of Thai delegates in the conference, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Dapong Ratanasuwan gave a speech to show that Thailand has put great efforts on the issues and request developed nations to take leading role in reducing the greenhouse gas emission ahead of the next conference to be held in 2015 in Paris, France.

In his speech, Dapong also presented the philosophy of sufficiency economy initiated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej as part of Thailand’s national plan emphasizing on the balance between economic development and environmental conservation.

It is interesting to keep an eye on the stance of nations with large-scale economy especially those of developing countries after they vowed to give financial subsidy to low-income nations for dealing with the global warming.

The promise to help is likely to be good sign which has been done during the 2014 conference and expected to be a milestone to the signing of a comprehensive global climate change agreement in 2015.
