BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) is accelerating the development of a digital monk verification system in collaboration with the National Office of Buddhism (NOB), aiming to improve the credibility and efficiency of identity verification for Buddhist monks in Thailand.
The system uses data from the NOB’s official monk database, securely hosted on the Government Data Center and Cloud Service (GDCC). It integrates electronic identity verification through the ThaID Digital ID platform and facial recognition technology based on official ID photographs. This initiative is designed to enhance the accuracy and reliability of verifying monk status nationwide.
Future developments will extend the system to include financial monitoring of temples, particularly income and expense accounts, to promote transparency and accountability within religious institutions.
In parallel, the DE Ministry is promoting the adoption of electronic documentation systems through the e-Office platform, also hosted on GDCC. Currently, 18 ministries and 6,434 government agencies across central, regional, and local administrations have joined the platform, involving more than 1.89 million users.
This figure significantly exceeds the 2025 adoption target of one million users, reflecting strong momentum in Thailand’s transition to digital governance. (NNT)
