BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Special Task Force for Thai-Cambodian Border Management (STF-TCBM) clarified on Wednesday that new measures along the border tighten controls at all crossings, rather than implementing a full closure.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nikorndej Balankura stated that permanent and temporary checkpoints are now subject to more stringent controls as part of a multi-phase enforcement.
Thailand continues to allow passage for humanitarian needs, including medical treatment, students, and essential daily activities.
He cited recent instances where Cambodian patients were admitted for urgent treatment in Thai provinces like Sa Kaeo and Chanthaburi. Thai border officials have swiftly coordinated to facilitate these crossings
Thailand confirms it has not halted exports of electricity, oil, or internet to Cambodia; it was Cambodia’s decision to suspend oil imports from Thailand. The Thai government emphasizes its concern for both Thai and Cambodian citizens, aiming to prevent them from bearing the burden of current issues. Measures to suppress transnational crime, including any suspension of goods, are directly targeting criminal networks, not the general public.
Thailand also urges its citizens to avoid provocative or extremist comments on social media regarding Cambodia, stressing the government’s commitment to resolving issues through bilateral mechanisms and fostering a cooperative atmosphere. (TNA)
