BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Culture is working with 33 agencies to establish 14 guidelines for Loy Krathong 2026, covering cultural preservation, public safety, economic development, and environmental protection. The preparations help promote responsible celebrations while encouraging younger generations and international visitors to appreciate Thai traditions.

Culture Minister Sabeeda Thaised chaired a meeting on October 19 to discuss preparations under the theme “Thai-Style Loy Krathong: Preserving Values, Inspiring the Next Generation.” The guidelines encourage traditional Thai attire, respect for local customs, safe travel, health precautions, and safety inspections of passenger boats and other transportation services.

The economic guidelines promote community products, cultural activities, and tourism to generate income for local businesses. Environmental measures encourage the use of krathongs made from natural materials, proper waste management, and the One Family, One Krathong concept to reduce waste and protect waterways.

Loy Krathong celebrations are being planned across Bangkok and major tourist destinations nationwide. The ministry is also pursuing UNESCO recognition for the tradition on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, while promoting Thai cultural heritage among younger generations and international audiences.
