Thailand relocates 10 SEA Games sports to Bangkok and Chonburi ahead of December 9 opening

With Hat Yai affected by floods, organizers move select events to ensure readiness, as the 33rd SEA Games prepare to welcome spectators with 10,000 additional seats for the Rajamangala Stadium opening ceremony.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Just six days before the opening ceremony, Thailand’s government has relocated 10 SEA Games sports from flood-affected Hat Yai to venues in Bangkok and Chonburi.

Minister of Tourism and Sports, Atthakorn Sirilatthayakorn, confirmed the shift for the games, running from December 9-20, anticipating the events will boost the economy by over 15 billion baht (about $469 million).



The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) Governor, Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, declared the preparations are “100% ready,” with accommodation finalized and focus now on promotion. An additional 10,000 seats were released today (Dec 3) for the December 9 opening ceremony at Rajamangala Stadium, which promises a “surprise.”

The 33rd SEA Games runs from December 9-20, 2025. The 13th ASEAN Para Games follows in Nakhon Ratchasima from January 20-26, 2026. (TNA)
