BANGKOK, Thailand – The Bureau of the Royal Household and the Royal Thai Navy have installed ceremonial decorations aboard the Suphannahong Royal Barge ahead of the Royal Barge Procession on November 6. Their Majesties the King and Queen will travel along the Chao Phraya River to Wat Arun for the Royal Kathin Robe Offering Ceremony, commemorating Her Majesty the Queen’s 48th birthday anniversary.
The preparations today (Oct 20) took place at the Thonburi Naval Dockyard in Bangkok. Officials installed ceremonial umbrellas, royal curtains, and traditional regalia, including a decorative tassel suspended from the barge’s swan-shaped prow. Made from fine white yak hair imported from Nepal and adorned with crystals, the ornament represents the craftsmanship associated with Thailand’s royal maritime heritage.
The procession will feature 52 royal and ceremonial barges operated by approximately 2,200 naval personnel. The Suphannahong, which received the World Ship Trust’s Maritime Heritage Award in 1992, serves as the principal royal vessel. Two full-dress rehearsals are scheduled for October 21 and 28 to ensure coordination, safety, and ceremonial precision.
The public can watch the November 6 procession from both banks of the Chao Phraya River, along the route from Rama VIII Bridge to Wat Arun Ratchawararam. Nationwide television and radio broadcasts will also be available through the Television Pool of Thailand and Radio Thailand. (NNT)
