Thailand positions itself as global LGBTQ+ leader with ‘Bangkok Pride Festival 2025’ and historic awards

The Bangkok Pride Festival 2025 and inaugural Bangkok Pride Awards, launched at Government House, signal Thailand’s bold push for global LGBTQ+ recognition following the Marriage Equality Bill—with plans to bid for World Pride 2030.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand has declared its ambition to become a global hub for LGBTQ+ diversity with the launch of the Bangkok Pride Festival 2025 and the inaugural Bangkok Pride Awards. The opening ceremony on 31 May, led by Prime Minister’s Office Minister Jiraporn Sindhuprai, was held at Government House and attended by representatives from government bodies, private organizations, and LGBTQ+ networks. The choice of venue was presented as a symbol of national support for equality and inclusion, following the recent passage of the Marriage Equality Bill.



The Bangkok Pride Awards were established to honor individuals and agencies that advance equality, defend rights, and promote social progress. Organizers reported receiving tens of millions of votes globally, highlighting widespread interest in LGBTQ+ issues and growing recognition of Thailand’s leadership in this area. The awards were described as a celebration of those contributing to a more inclusive society.

A total of 25 winners were recognized across 11 categories, including business, media, culture, social contribution, activism, content creation, performing arts, film and television, music, drag entertainment, and politics.


Running from 30 May to 1 June, the Bangkok Pride Festival featured citywide events including the Bangkok Pride Forum, Pride Parade, Drag Bangkok Festival, Pride Party, and the official awards ceremony. These events celebrated LGBTQ+ identity while encouraging public engagement and visibility throughout the capital.

Officials confirmed Bangkok’s intention to bid for World Pride 2030, further elevating the city’s global profile and supporting Thailand’s status as a champion of equality and LGBTQ+ inclusion. (NNT)
