Thailand, Pakistan discuss Middle East stability and maritime security cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow met with Pakistan Ambassador Rukhsana Afzaal to discuss Middle East developments, maritime safety in the Strait of Hormuz, and plans to strengthen bilateral ties through the upcoming Thailand–Pakistan Joint Commission.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow held a discussion with H.E. Mrs. Rukhsana Afzaal, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Thailand.

Both parties discussed the situation in the Middle East. The Deputy Prime Minister commended Pakistan’s role in mediating the ceasefire and peace talks between the U.S. and Iran, and acknowledged the arrangement between Pakistan and Iran that ensures safe passage for Pakistani-flagged vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. They also considered ways for Thailand and Pakistan to cooperate to secure safe passage for Thai cargo vessels through the Strait.

Both sides also discussed bilateral cooperation, focusing on convening the first Thailand-Pakistan Joint Commission (JC) this year to further strengthen relations between the two countries. (NNT)
