Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun meets JETRO and Japanese business representatives to expand technology partnerships, develop new industries and connect Thai SMEs with global supply chains.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand is seeking to expand economic cooperation with Japan through joint investment, technology development, and partnerships in emerging industries. The government hopes to move beyond its traditional role as a manufacturing base for Japanese companies, create new business opportunities, and help Thai small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) enter global supply chains.

Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun discussed the plans with representatives of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce, Bangkok (JCC), on November 4. The meeting reviewed global economic conditions, investor confidence, and ways to improve Thailand’s trade and investment environment.

Priority sectors include next-generation vehicles, semiconductors, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, future food, the aging economy, and green industries. Suphajee encouraged businesses from both countries to cooperate on product development, technology transfer, and international expansion while creating more opportunities for Thai companies in Japanese supply chains.

The Ministry of Commerce plans to arrange business matching activities and work with major Japanese trading companies, known as Sogo Shosha, to help Thai products reach international markets. The two sides will continue exploring business opportunities as they prepare to celebrate 140 years of diplomatic relations in 2027. (NNT)
