BANGKOK, Thailand – The government has introduced a digital service allowing the public to access and download their electricity and water payment history through the “Thang Rath” mobile application. Developed by the Bank of Thailand, the Digital Government Development Agency (DGA), and major utility providers, the service enables citizens to use verified utility records when applying for loans with participating financial institutions. This offers a new option for people without formal income documentation but with a consistent record of bill payments.
Available since June 30, the service is free and accessible to registered users whose names appear on utility bills. It provides up to six months of billing data, including personal details, service addresses, user types, billing amounts, payment dates, and payment methods. Each document is digitally signed to ensure authenticity and can be submitted electronically to lenders, thereby speeding up loan processing and reducing paperwork. To use the service, users must register and verify their identity on the “Thang Rath” app. Each user can then select the finance and insurance menu, choose a utility provider, enter their meter number, and confirm the request.
The downloaded document is saved to the device and can be used as supporting evidence during loan applications. Those listed on multiple utility accounts may submit documents from any or all of them. The data helps lenders evaluate an applicant’s creditworthiness based on consistent payment behavior and residential stability. This provides greater access to credit for informal workers, small business owners, and others who may lack conventional financial documentation.
Support is available through the DGA Contact Center and utility call centers for those with registration or data issues. Citizens are encouraged to utilize the “Thang Rath” platform to securely manage their personal data and expand their access to financial services. A full list of participating lenders is available at www.bot.or.th. (NNT)
