BANGKOK, Thailand – The government has launched a digital channel to support individuals with disabilities and their caregivers through the new “DepFund” mobile application. Developed by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEP) under the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the app enables users to apply for interest-free loans, check loan statuses, view balances, and make electronic payments. The program supports economic self-reliance and expands access to state services for vulnerable groups.
As part of this program, individuals can borrow between 60,000 and 120,000 baht, while group loans are available for up to 1 million baht. Loan terms are interest-free with a five-year repayment period. The funds are intended to help launch or grow businesses, with most borrowers currently working in the agriculture or retail sectors. According to government data, more than 300,000 persons with disabilities and caregivers have received loans, totaling over 1.1 billion baht as of mid-May 2025.
The app, available on both iOS and Android platforms, is integrated with Thailand’s Digital ID system, providing users with an efficient and accessible way to manage their financial interactions with the state. In addition to financial access, the tool supports improved transparency and convenience for loan recipients.
As of April 2025, Thailand has 2.2 million registered persons with disabilities, representing just over 3 percent of the population. This financial program is part of a broader government effort to improve the quality of life and expand equal access to resources and public services, especially for those at a greater risk of economic hardship.
Applicants interested in the loan program can submit their applications online at https://efund.dep.go.th. Additional support is available through local disability service centers and provincial social development offices. (NNT)
