Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul orders officials to maintain vigilance in high-risk flood zones, improve early warnings and prepare shelters and recovery operations.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul instructed officials nationwide to maintain high-level vigilance in high-risk zones, emphasizing early warnings, shelter management, and post-flood recovery, despite improving conditions in several areas.

Flooding currently persists across 30 provinces, including Bangkok, affecting over 3.3 million people and causing 24 fatalities, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.

The government also launched a nationwide disaster insurance scheme covering around 30 million households against floods, storms, and earthquakes, effective Oct. 1. Events prior to Oct. 1 will be compensated under existing legal budgets.

Deputy Interior Minister Jeseth Thaiseth clarified that coverage relies on Sept. 30 GISTDA satellite imagery as a baseline. Affected households will receive a 10,000 baht remedy, while home repair claims will switch to a lump-sum system on Nov. 1, bypassing physical damage surveys in declared disaster zones to deliver payouts within 15 days.
