Thailand issues flash flood and landslide warnings for 33 provinces as storm approaches

Authorities urge residents in high-risk areas to stay alert and prepare for potential flooding.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) has issued a warning for potential flash floods, forest runoff, landslides, and urban flooding in 33 provinces between August 24 and 28, 2025, as a storm system approaches Thailand. The alert follows a coordination meeting with the Meteorological Department, the Hydro Informatics Institute, the Department of Water Resources, the Department of Mineral Resources, the Royal Irrigation Department, and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.



At-risk provinces in the north include Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. In the northeast, Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Chaiyaphum, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani are identified. The eastern region includes Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat, while the southern provinces of Chumphon, Ranong, Surat Thani, Phang Nga, and Phuket are also under watch.

Authorities warn that communities with poor drainage systems are especially vulnerable to urban flooding. Residents in all high-risk areas are urged to remain alert, follow weather updates, and prepare to act quickly if conditions worsen.
