The Ministry of Energy of Thailand confirms the country has 7,795 million liters of oil reserves — enough for 61 days — while closely monitoring the impact of the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Energy is closely monitoring rising tensions in the Middle East and has confirmed that Thailand has sufficient oil reserves to cover 61 days of domestic consumption, while preparing contingency measures in case the situation continues.

Deputy Permanent Secretary for Energy and Ministry Spokesperson Veerapat Kiatfuengfoo stated that the Israel–Iran conflict has increased oil price volatility and raised concerns about a possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which handles about 20 percent of global oil supply.

As of February 23, 2026, Thailand’s oil reserves, including crude oil and refined products, total 4,925 million liters, enough for 38 days. An additional 2,870 million liters of crude oil are in transit, with 1,746 million liters already through the Strait of Hormuz and 1,124 million liters from other sources, covering another 23 days. In total, reserves amount to 7,795 million liters, sufficient for 61 days.

For liquefied natural gas (LNG), four cargoes are scheduled for March 2026. Two have already passed through the Strait of Hormuz, and the remaining two are en route. No impact on domestic supply is expected.

The Ministry has developed contingency plans, including sourcing fuel from alternative suppliers, to maintain reserve stability and public confidence if tensions escalate.

The Ministry reaffirmed that there is no current fuel shortage and urged the public to follow official communications for accurate information. (NNT)
