Thai authorities say the MK-84 bomb discovered in a Cambodian civilian area was likely old and buried, not dropped in recent air operations.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ad Hoc Centre for Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation has confirmed that an MK-84 bomb recently found in a Cambodian civilian area is not linked to any recent Thai air operations.

This statement follows a report by The Phnom Penh Post, which cited a Cambodian mine action official suggesting the bomb may have been dropped by Thai F-16 or Gripen fighter jets.

However, the Ad Hoc Centre, after consulting relevant agencies, stated that all recent Thai air operations were strictly confined to military targets and conducted in accordance with international principles of sovereignty and self-defense.

The centre also noted that the MK-84 bomb appeared to be old and was likely unearthed from beneath a civilian residence. Based on this assessment, the centre concluded it is implausible that the bomb was the result of any current Thai military activity. (NNT)
