
BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand concluded its role as host of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games with a successful closing ceremony at Rajamangala National Stadium.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Deputy Prime Minister Captain Thamanat Prompow, with the Minister of Tourism and Sports and Chairman of the Organising Committee, Artthakorn Sirilatthayakorn, presenting a report on the Games. Senior officials from regional and national sports organisations, representatives from Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla, athletes, officials, media, and the public attended the event.
Thailand secured its 14th overall SEA Games gold title, earning a record 233 gold, 154 silver, and 112 bronze medals. This achievement marked Thailand’s return to the top of the medal standings after a decade and demonstrated ongoing progress toward international sporting standards.
The closing ceremony included cultural performances themed “The Sound of Whistle” and “The Sound of Champions,” honoring athletes’ achievements. The SEA Games Federation flag was then lowered and formally handed to Malaysia, the next host of the Games.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports extended heartfelt congratulations to Thai athletes and expressed gratitude to all agencies and partners, underscoring Thailand’s growing reputation as a vibrant center for sports and culture in the region. (NNT)
