
BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Highways has inaugurated the Fifth Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge (Bueng Kan–Bolikhamxay), marking a significant advancement in cross-border travel, transportation, and trade between Thailand and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR). The bridge has been open to the public since December 27, 2025.
The permanent border checkpoint on the Thai side is at Ban Don Yom, Khai Si Subdistrict, Mueang Bueng Kan District, Bueng Kan Province, connecting to Ban Kuai Udom, Pakxan District, Bolikhamxay Province, Lao PDR. The crossing is open daily from 6 A.M. to 10 P.M.
During the initial phase, no bridge tolls will be collected while legal procedures in both countries are finalized.
Motorists and travelers should prepare all required travel and vehicle documents for inspection by immigration and customs officials at the Bueng Kan border checkpoint. Road users are also urged to strictly comply with traffic regulations and follow instructions from on-site officials.
