Thai police arrest two European fraud suspects

BANGKOK, May 23 – Thai immigration police today announced the arrest of two Europeans on the run, one an Italian and another a French national, who are under arrest warrants and escaped to hide in Thailand.

Raccagni Stefano of Italy, 38, was arrested at his home in the northern province of Chiang Mai. The Italian Embassy sought cooperation from the Thai police for the arrest.

The suspect was accused of being a key member of an organised crime ring allegedly smuggling people into the European Union (EU). He was also accused of opening over 50 companies to falsify documents for bank loans and financial institutions, causing damages of at least Bt300 million.

In another case, Eve Paollepi, a 47-year-old French national, was apprehended at Koh Samui in Surat Thani province.

She and her husband were wanted by the French government for fraud in the construction business, using fake documents, and taking client money amounting to Bt40 million. The suspect closed the business and moved to Indonesia before coming to Thailand last year.
