Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul orders provinces to coordinate water releases and relief efforts as heavier rain is forecast for October 10 to 12.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed provinces connected by common waterways to coordinate drainage plans as flood response and recovery operations continue. Governors are tasked with exchanging information with neighboring provinces and working with the Royal Irrigation Department and military units to move water from upstream areas toward suitable outlets.

Southern provinces have also been told to prepare for increased rainfall, especially from October 10 to 12, referencing lessons learned from previous flooding in Hat Yai district. Authorities must prepare relief networks, drinking water, and supplies suited to local conditions, including ready-to-eat food for communities without electricity.

More than 10,400 households have been approved for flood relief payments totaling about 94 million baht. Provinces and districts that have completed damage assessments have been instructed to submit eligible households to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, with information carefully verified before being forwarded to the Government Savings Bank for payment.

Overall river levels are stable or declining, while Chao Phraya Dam continues to discharge 2,500 cubic meters per second. Reservoirs nationwide are at about 82% of capacity, and high sea tides are being monitored through October 10. Provinces where flooding continues must also keep residents informed about local conditions, safety measures, and channels for assistance. (NNT)
