Thai officials and journalists discuss media’s role amid Cambodia border tensions at FCCT panel

BANGKOK, Thailand – Department of Information Director-General and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nikorndej Balankura has participated in a panel discussion at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand (FCCT), discussing media coverage and public communications related to the Thai-Cambodian border tensions. The gathering was held amid growing concern over misinformation and the role of public communication in shaping understanding of the ongoing situation.



The event featured senior officials and media professionals, including Maratee Nalita Andamo, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information and spokesperson on foreign affairs for the Ad Hoc Centre for the Thailand–Cambodia Border Situation; Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense and security affairs spokesperson for the same center; Thanchanok Jongyotying, Editor-in-Chief of TNN; and Tony Cheng, Senior Correspondent at Al Jazeera. The session was moderated by FCCT President Panu Wongcha-um.


Panelists exchanged views with both local and international media on how to report accurately and responsibly during times of heightened tension. Talks also addressed the spread of false information and how it affects public perception. After the discussion, the panelists answered questions from the audience, offering insight into how official channels are responding to developments and attempting to clarify facts amid rapidly evolving events.
