Troops reinforce Thai–Cambodian border with fortified positions and new fencing as authorities invite journalist to verify conditions firsthand.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The government, through Spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub, reported on Sunday (Aug 17) that conditions along the Thai–Cambodian border remain stable across all seven provinces. Troops are maintaining positions at 11 fortified locations, while additional barbed-wire fencing is being installed to reinforce territorial security and prevent intrusions.

Officials said Cambodia has engaged in attempts to distort the situation through misinformation campaigns, staged incidents, and fabricated content to discredit Thailand. Citizens and media outlets following developments were urged to carefully verify reports with official sources before sharing them.

The central administration also addressed the case of Michael B. Alfaro, an American lobbyist presenting himself online as a White House correspondent, who has been posting from the Cambodian side of the border. Authorities reiterated their readiness to provide transparency by inviting the individual to Thailand to observe the situation firsthand.

If Alfaro accepts the invitation, the government said it will cover his travel expenses and escort him to livestream directly from the minefield zone, giving him the opportunity to broadcast the conditions on the ground without distortion. (NNT)
